Spatial planning can help to alleviate some of the issues of climate change in the following ways, not just in the UK, but throughout the globe.
We have called this V.I.C.E. C.R.E.S.T, as an easy way of remembering it! Minimising future Vulnerability e.g. not building in high-risk areasIncorporating mitigation and adaptationEncouraging Competition and rewards to businesses who can adapt to reducing climate changeLimit Carbon Dioxide Emissions, in the provision, distribution and location of development Conserve and enhance biodiversityIdeally use Renewable or low-carbon energyEngaging and educating communities about climate changeSocial cohesion and inclusion in new developmentsSustainable Transport that is accessible to rural communities
